About The Credit Union

The Credit Union was discovered back in 1962 when it started to provide low-cost loans and secure savings accounts.

Our primary aim is to encourage people to save, but we also offer low-cost loans when people need to borrow. Anyone who saves with the credit union becomes a member of the co-operative and can use one of many savings/budgeting accounts to open them.

Ethics, values and principles

Savings can be withdrawn within 5 working days if requested. These savings form a sum of money held in trust. Any member can apply to borrow from this sum of money. Because it is largely volunteer-run and has no outside shareholders it can provide low cost and flexible to its members. The primary aim is of the credit union is to promote sound monetary management by encouraging people to save rather than borrow.

Democracy, equality and fairness

As a co-operative, we operate differently to other businesses owned by shareholders. Our board of directors is directly elected by and from our membership, on a one-person rate basis. In a standard business the more shares you have the more votes you have meaning that only the rich have any real say or control.

The Credit Union Services

Bank current accounts and overdrafts are very appropriate but can be very expensive.

The Credit Union provides a real option to banks with our Engage account partners. You can use the credit card to buy goods or service online, in stores or restaurants, or anywhere that displays the VISA symbol.

The Engage Classic Visa debit card

Engage is the local brand for all credit union banking and payment services. Engage is a Visa debit card and account benefits the credit union member. The Engage account and Visa debit card works just like an account from a high street bank but is only accessible from your Engage credit union. You can use your Engage card to shop pay bills and save capital with our cashback rewards program.

The Engage rewards

Fantastic rewards and offers accessible from national and local retailers when you use your Engage Visa debit card. You can have cashback rewards of up to 15% each time you use your Engage Visa debit card to pay for products. You can find out more about these rewards on our website.
